The federal government is taking steps to require that new vehicles be equipped with technology that allows them to communicate to avoid crashes, say the Dallas injury lawyers of 1800 CAR WRECK. The introduction of the “vehicle-to-vehicle” communication technology may cut down on car accidents significantly and save the lives of as many as 20,000 people each year, according to US Department of Transportation projections.
New Cars to Be Required to ‘Talk to Each Other’
The DOT launched a test project of the V2V technology in Ann Arbor, Mich., in August 2012. The department said the 3,000 test vehicles have so far shown the technology could potentially prevent as much as 80 percent of crash scenarios where the drivers are not impaired.

Feds plan mandate for cars to ‘talk’ to one another using GPS technology
“This technology would improve safety by allowing vehicles to “talk” to each other and ultimately avoid many crashes altogether by exchanging basic safety data, such as speed and position, ten times per second,” the department said in a statement.

Say the Dallas car wreck lawyers of the Eberstein & Witherite firm, although the technology seems promising for reducing the number of traffic accidents that occur in the US annually, drivers must still remain cognizant of their actions on the road to keep them safe as possible. The new V2V communication features are designed to help improve driver control in avoiding risky circumstances, but drivers should not rely on it to drive for them. Even with the use of the technology, distracted driving and other risky behaviors are important to avoid.
