The Texas Department of Transportation recently released a list of the 100 Most Congested Roadways in Texas. This is part of the organization’s ongoing commitment to address congested roads.
At the top of the list was a portion of I-35W in Ft. Worth. Plenty of Dallas roads made the list, too. Second on the list was Dallas’ I635. According to the report, Texas motorists lost a shocking 2,746,223 hours due to the congestion on just a small strip of this road.
As the Department of Transportation notes, this list illustrates the severity and extent of Texas’s traffic problem. The total delay of more than 137 million hours statewide carries an economic cost in lost time and wasted fuel of nearly $3 billion. Texas plans to address these problem areas; mitigation plans for handling each congested roadway are attached to the list and available for viewers to read.
The 100 Most Congested Roadways list is created annually with help from the Texas A&M Transportation Institute. Analysis is conducted on all roads in Texas regardless of the agency that built them, so city streets and non-state-operated toll roads are also included in the list.
